Readers are leaders.
Reading is fundamental.
We have all heard some phrase or quote emphasizing the importance of reading.
Reading is one of my hobbies and has unlocked so much for me.
So, I felt like I needed to share with you the books that have provided immense benefit to me in the player development role.
I shared this list of books in this week’s podcast but will also share a list of them below.

Assignment #9
Emcee
Story
I have a lot of stories about being an emcee for recruiting, programs, students, alumni, and fan events. Growing up my father was typically the emcee for family functions and he took great pride in it. Now with that said, I was not looking to fully follow in his talents but I have been summoned and suggested many times so I gave in. LOL
This event you see in the picture is an event actually created by Kaleb Thornhill when he was with the Miami Dolphins. He reached out to our athletic department saying he and other staff would love to speak to our student-athletes about careers in sports. I was connected to him and we made it happen. We invited all the athletes and the sports management students at the University of Houston. It was a great event and in the emcee role I was able to let the students know the rare experience they were a part of.
BENEFITS
Set The Temperature
As mentioned earlier I was able to communicate with the students sitting in the room how rare it was to have four NFL professionals speaking to them about careers in sports, answering questions, and providing advice for their careers.
Leadership Opportunity
You are able to display your leadership skills through communication and action while emceeing. As mentioned above you are in control of the event and how you create value and understanding to those at the event can go a long way. Most emcees are chosen because they can lead a room.
Communicate Your Knowledge
This could be knowledge of the culture for the program you serve, knowledge of the value of your program has created, knowledge of the individuals who may be highlighted at the event, knowledge of those who are attending the event, and so much more. This is a great chance to communicate clearly the importance of this event, the attendees, and so much more.
