Many of you know I was a one-person player development department during my time in the role, in regard to full-time employees.
Lauren Hawkins was an incredible assistant during my time at Kansas. With that said, she was limited in all she could do as she was still a student at the time.
So, I had to find ways to expand the player development department through other full-time employees in the program, athletic department, campus, and local areas.
After some time in the role, I began to create a super team of individuals who spent the most time with the athletes and were in places where players are most open and vulnerable.
In my experience in being around football over 25+ years of my life, players are most open during workouts, practice breaks, when they’re eating, in the training room, and when they are studying.
So strategically creating a super team of those professionals who are in those areas when vulnerability happens was huge. In this newsletter and tomorrow’s podcast I will tell you 10 people/groups of people you need to know in the role. I have a list of 43 people/groups of people to know (YOU will get more information on that later in this newsletter), but I wanted to share 10 with you.
10 People to KNOW in the Role
The first 5 spend the most time with student-athletes. This is not a TOP TEN list, no order of importance.
Strength Coaches
Sports Medicine
Nutrition/Dietician
Academics
Equipment
Compliance
Police Departments
Housing
Admissions
Barbers
As mentioned earlier I will dive deeper into these 10 and why they are important to the role on tomorrow’s podcast.
External Relationships Checklist
There has to be more than 10, right?
There is! Those additional 33 people/groups have been placed in a document I call the External Relationships Checklist. A list where you can literally 43x the impact of the player development department.
I’ve created a course where I detail the other people/groups you MUST know in the role. The list is included in the course, and you can download and use it TODAY!
You can find that course here: External Relationships Course
