Here Are The Six Main Areas of Player Development
The Player Development Community You've Wanted Is Now Here and You Can Join
As a self proclaimed player development nerd, I have researched the main areas those in player development use to impact the lives of the athletes they serve.
In the role I focused on three areas of player development: personal, community, and career. These three are the main pillars of the Beyond The Field Program I used when I was in the role.
But, I wanted to know what others were doing so I did some research and found three additional areas used by others in player development. Those areas were: skill or learning, relational, and leadership.
These areas provide a great foundation for anyone looking to create a player development plan or guideline for their program.
Once again, those six main areas of player development are:
Personal
Community
Career
Skill or Learning
Relational
Leadership
I dive deeper into these six in this week’s Player Development Pod episode, which you can find here:
The Player Development Community
It is finally here a place where we can all come together to grow, network, and talk player development.
A place where people from all around the world can have dialogue, connection, and a shared impact.
I am hopeful you will join this community of like minded player development people as we create impact in the lives of athletes all around the world.

I had a great time in Charlotte at the 2025 American Football Coaches Association Convention, there I gave a speech on how player development can impact every athlete in a program.
I recorded my speech and will share it with y’all later this week. While I was there I was able to record a couple of in person interviews, I wanted to record more but either I or the person I wanted to interview were being pulled away by others.
The two in person interviews I was able to record were one with Antoine McClain, in which we talked about the impact he creates in alumni engagement. The other was an interview testimonial with Evan Blasingame who is a part of the Ultimate Cohort of the Player Development Academy.
All of those videos will be released this week for your viewing. I highly recommend you watch all three in their entirety, you don’t want to miss out.
