I was super excited when Will confirmed he would speak at the 2024 Player Development Conference.

I met Will in 2018. I will never forget meeting Will because this was the week my Head Coach told me he was going to remove my position the following February. I was not in a good place at that time as I was so frustrated my position would be removed despite the impact that was made. So, to say Will met me when my attitude and energy were bad is an understatement. Will gave a presentation to our staff about branding (YES, Will was talking branding in 2018 before it became the sexy thing to do.) At first, I wasn’t trying to hear it because I was still in my head about the news I received, but as he gave example after example, nugget after nugget, I was thoroughly engaged and found myself sitting up and turning the workshop into a one-on-one consulting meeting. HA!

After the meeting Will came up to me and asked me how I was doing. For some reason, I opened up and told him about what was going on. He immediately made time for me and said let’s flesh out a plan. I told him all I did in player development in the role. He applauded me for my work, and then asked me who else knows. I told him I was using Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. He then said what about LinkedIn, I responded with the resume site. He then told me the opportunity that was available on LinkedIn for the work I do to help me find my next place. (ONCE AGAIN, for those in the back this was 2018)

He ended our conversation as he had to go by saying load the work, I was doing on LinkedIn first before the other sites. He gave me his number and said let’s connect in a month. His last words were post on LinkedIn, trust me.

So, I began doing what Will told me and Y’ALL the influx of connections, conversations, and even interviews came in. I was connecting with people in so many ways. I went to one conference and an esteemed professional met me for the first time and said I love the work you’re doing; WE SEE YOU!

I was not the only one benefiting as well, our program, players, and even our head coach was benefiting from the content I was putting on LinkedIn. That said Head Coach, decided not to let me go shortly after my LinkedIn transformation.

I have tried to bring Will into the programs I was a part of for our programming and was always vetoed by power. This frustrated me greatly, but I was able to connect him with others in the space. The reviews were always the same, HE CRUSHED IT!
